Day 1 — Sembalun Village to Crater Rim Sembalun (2,639 m)

Day 1 — Sembalun Village to Crater Rim Sembalun (2,639 m)

The trek begins in the morning at Sembalun Village, where Mount Rinjani’s wide savanna stretches toward the horizon. After breakfast, you meet your guide and porters for a final equipment check and registration at the Rinjani Information Center (RIC).

08:30 AM – Start trekking from Sembalun Village (1,156 m).
The trail begins across open grassland and gentle slopes. Although the terrain feels manageable at first, the lack of shade and steady uphill walking require a controlled pace.

10:00 AM – Arrive at Pos 1 (1,300 m).
A short break is taken to rest and hydrate before continuing.

10:10 AM – Continue trekking to Pos 2 (Tengengean, 1,500 m).
The path gradually climbs through rolling hills and open savanna.

11:00 AM – Arrive at Pos 2.

Take a longer rest while enjoying views over the Sembalun Valley.

11:15 AM – Continue trekking to Pos 3 (Pada Balong, 1,800 m).
This section takes around one hour, with a steady uphill walk on volcanic soil.

12:30 PM – Arrive at Pos 3.
Lunch is served, followed by a longer rest of approximately 1.5–2 hours to recover energy before the steep afternoon ascent.

In the afternoon, the trek continues toward Crater Rim Sembalun (Plawangan Sembalun). This section passes through the famous Seven Hills, including the demanding Bukit Penyesalan, where stamina and mental focus are tested.

03:30–04:00 PM – Arrive at Crater Rim Sembalun (2,639 m).

From the campsite, enjoy panoramic views of Segara Anak Lake, Mount Baru Jari, and, on clear days, Mount Agung in Bali. Your porters set up camp while you relax with hot drinks.

As the sun sets, dinner is served at the crater rim. Temperatures drop significantly at night, so warm clothing is essential. You rest early in preparation for the summit push before dawn.

Overview — Day 1 (Sembalun Route)

  • Distance: ±9 km
  • Duration: 6–7 hours
  • Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult (Seven Hills)
  • Highest point: 2,639 m (Crater Rim Sembalun)
  • Elevation gain: +1,483 m
Day 2 – Summit Attempt (3,726m) & Return to Sembalun

Day 2 — Summit Push (3,726 m) → Return to Sembalun Village

The summit day begins very early in the cold mountain darkness at Crater Rim Sembalun. With clear skies and stars above the caldera, this is the most demanding yet most rewarding day of the entire trek.

02:00–02:30 AM – Wake up and prepare for the summit attempt.
A light breakfast of biscuits, bananas, and hot drinks is served to warm the body and provide quick energy before the climb.

02:30 AM – Begin the summit ascent.
The trail immediately becomes steep and challenging, consisting of loose volcanic sand and gravel. Each step forward often slides slightly back, requiring patience, balance, and steady breathing. Your guide sets a slow but consistent pace to conserve energy.

As the ascent continues, cold wind and thin air test both physical strength and mental focus. Gradually, the darkness fades and the sky begins to change color, offering motivation with every step upward.

05:30–06:00 AM – Reach the Summit of Mount Rinjani (3,726 m).
Standing on Lombok’s highest point is a powerful and unforgettable moment. From the summit, enjoy a 360-degree sunrise panorama over Lombok Island, Mount Agung in Bali, Sumbawa Island, and the vast caldera far below.

After photos and quiet moments at the top, begin the careful descent back toward the crater rim.

06:30–08:00 AM – Descend back to Crater Rim Sembalun.
Although faster than the ascent, the loose sand makes the descent slippery, so careful footing is essential.

08:00–09:00 AM – Breakfast and rest at camp.
Enjoy a hot breakfast while resting and preparing for the long descent back to Sembalun.

09:30 AM – Begin descent to Sembalun Village.
The trail follows the same route down through the Seven Hills and wide savanna slopes. While downhill, the long descent can be tough on the knees and legs.

12:30 PM – Lunch break at Pos 3.
A final rest stop allows time to refuel before the last section.

03:30–04:30 PM – Arrive back at Sembalun Village.
Congratulations — you have completed the Rinjani Summit 2D1N Trek.

After changing clothes and collecting your belongings, your driver transfers you to your next destination in Lombok.
